My passion is for drama and seeing how people can be changed through the process of engaging in this amazing art form.
I work part time for a theatre company called ‘Stage-Fright’ based in Wokingham. Stage-Fright is a charity that runs imaginative theatre projects and group workshops through which young people explore life experiences and personal values. We run After School Theatre Clubs in 5 schools in the area and we also run a Youth Theatre 2 nights a week.
I’m currently being employed by Pilgrims Heart Charity to be part of the team working in the Women’s centre in Reading. The Lottery have funded a project entitled ‘Hidden treasure’ which will see us engaging the women there using drama, card-making, writing and photography to produce a calendar.
Another project is one with NEET (Not in education, employment or training) young people. The boys that we are working with have anxieties about being at school. We are having a great time working with them on a video project.
Other projects that I have worked on include an Arts project at Cirdic (Churches in Reading Drop in Centre). This was a project led by Pilgrim Hearts Charity, using music, drama and film to explore stories of the people who use the centre. It was an incredible experience and one that I learnt so much from.
I am have worked with Creative partnerships as a Creative agent at a primary school in Aylesbury. Summer term 2010 saw us working to engage key stage 1 and explore different characters that might work aboard a cruise ship. The aim of the project was to help them role play using their imaginations and creating a good environment. We returned in the Autumn and Winter term of that year, to explore the story of the Nutcracker, with Year 1 and 2. After Christmas we continued to work with the school in the foundation classes engaging in their child-lead play incentive and role-playing different scenes.
