Mid
On Friday I handed in approximately 15,000 words of work for my mid-year assessment for college! And that’s only half of my work (well it’s just under half to be honest!)
But now that that is done, I can actually breathe a bit easier and not worry as much, well for a day or so before I really need to crack back on with work again!
Because of Mark’s theory that you run out of ideas of blogs as soon as you have enough time to write one, I now can’t think of anything drastically exciting to blog about!
Only thing I am trying not to think about is this “Thursday” which is the crappest day of the year for anyone who is single and wondering what I will do to make sure I don’t do any heartbroken single people clichés!
Oh, on Saturday just gone I got another piercing done in my ear, just below the one I’ve got now and the girl who served me had her neck pierced!! Yes, her neck, the back of her neck was pierced! It was gross! When I asked what the scar above it was, she said she had two piercings on the back of her neck but took the top one out because it had hit a nerve in her spine and she fainted! That is shocking!
Rewind
As I said in the last post (thanks Tom for commenting, at least one person reads this blog and thinks its worth responding too…go blog) that I went to see Cloverfield on Saturday night and enjoyed it but before all that happened there was the obligatory trailers before the film. Some people despise trailers and think they are vile…however I actually enjoy trailers quite a bit and love seeing little bits of films that gets me excited about seeing them.
One of the trailers for Cloverfield was for a film that I had heard of but had not heard much about at all.
But yet from the trailer (and I am prepared for the possibility that all the funny bits might be in the trailer and the film might suck) the film looks amazingly funny and good and I actually laughed a fair bit at the trailer, in fact I had to hide the fact that I was laughing!
The film in question is Be Kind Rewind and stars Jack Black, Mos Def and is directed by the ever so talented Michel Gondry (who directed the absolutely sublime Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) and well I’ll let you watch the trailer yourself and check out just how great and funny this film looks like it’s going to be!
Cloverfield
I’m writing this post as I take a five minute break from the writing of a directed task for my degree (2,000 words and the one I’m doing at the moment is writing an annual work plan including needs assessment for all of the youth work I do!) which is absolutely tons of fun (please make mental note of sarcasm)
But that’s not the important thing and more importantly that’s not what this blog is about.
Last night I went to the old cinema with Phil Green and after going to the pub and eating some food (mmm delicious) we decided to go and see the new film out called ‘Cloverfield’. Most of you if you are fairly up on movies or popular culture would have heard about the flick and would probably know it as the disaster monster movie from J.J. Abrams who does Lost (but maybe you don’t want to judge him for that!) and there was loads of press about it because of their quite clever I must say viral advertising campaign and cool mysterious and aloof teaser trailers.
If you want me to fully review the film then you have come to the wrong place because my hard rockin’ amigo from Luton, young master Sir Thomas of Wade (he ain’t really a Sir but is from Luton…don’t judge him) is the man to go to for reviewing movies…and lucky you he writes all of his reviews down on his lovely blog…aren’t you lucky! and I’ve just seen that he has reviewed this film already and probably much better than I could anyway!
But I will say that I enjoyed it, it’s shot in the shaky camera style that people would mostly know as ‘Oh, like the Blair Witch project‘ and so it can strain your eyes because you find yourself focussing them awfully hard to keep up with the movements but I like it as a style and I think it adds realism. I won’t give away anything from the film so do not fear I wont be mister spoiler today but whether the ending is any good or whether its fairly disappointing I shall leave up to you wonderful people to decide on your own with your little brains (don’t feel bad about the little brains comment…they’re all pretty much the same size! aren’t they?!). I have a feeling that watching the film a second time wouldn’t be half as good and I’m sure lots of pretentious film critics will not like it because it is a bit cliché and quite formulaic but none the less I enjoyed the experience and thought it was a worthwhile and dare I say good one.
