Top 5 films of 06

Friday, December 22nd, 2006

After reading my uni buddy Tom’s blog, I have been inspired to come up with my Top 5 films of the year! It has been surprisingly hard to do so! I have been able to easily get it down to a Top 7 but Top 7 doesn’t really sound as good as a Top 5!

So here is my Top 5 Films of 2006!

In no particular order…

1. Casino Royale

Leading up to it’s release I was worried that this would be rubbish, I always had confidence in Daniel Craig being Bond but was kinda worried that it would be as bad as ‘Die Another Day‘. Luckily, it was brilliant! The free running bit was amazing and inspired me and Phil Brown to do even more free running attempting than usual! It showed me why Bond was Bond and although I could see the plot twist coming, it didn’t really stop me from caring about the plot twist. I’m looking forward to more Hardcore Bond in the future!

2. Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan

I can’t be bothered to write it all again but in shorter form so read my blog about the great and brilliant movie! Click here to read it

3. The Departed

This movie was one that I was kinda hoping for a lot from, it is meant to be Martin Scorsese’s last gangster film and it is based upon a series of films that Tom had hyped heavily (Infernal Affairs) and I personally wasn’t disappointed…if I was really pushed to actually say one film of the year then this would probably be it. The twists and turns kept me hooked and Mark Wahlberg (formerly ‘Marky Mark’ and brother of a New Kid on the Block) was actually really good in it!

4. Miami Vice

When this came out, I wanted to go and see it but I wasn’t really desperate to see it. It looked alright but I was expecting it to be a bit of a popcorn buddy-cop movie. But it shocked me at how good it was. I advise you all to watch it.

5. Lucky Number Slevin

When this film came out, I didn’t want to go and see it. Any movie with Josh Hartnett in it (except ‘The Faculty‘) is and should be a complete no no! (we all know how bad ‘Pearl Harbour‘ is!) but one time when me and Kev went to the cinema, there was nothing of worth on and so we went to see this. It was really good! If you don’t watch to the end then you won’t understand what the flip is going on but at the end of the movie you get it! It was one of my best 21st Birthday presents from Rach too!

and here are the two added on films who whilst just miss out on the Top 5 they do deserve special attention…

Crank

Crank was a film that was hyped up after Phil Brown saw it but I am never fully convinced when things are considered AMAZING by Phil, come on, he thinks the pc game Minesweeper is INCREDIBLE! But he dragged me to see it and it was really fun! It was very high paced and quite hilarious at times! Jason Statham is quite good at playing himself and getting away with it!

The Ringer

Man, I am not going to say much about this film except watch it! I absolutely laughed my head off watching this! So much so it hurt! Just wait for the bit “When did we get ice cream?”

Gareth and Hayley… blah blah blah

Mighty

Joined up with my very own V I Person and best buddy Andy at the Golf last night for beer and good times, fun was had and laughs were shared. There are no real hilarious anecdotes of worth but I did tell Andy that I would name check my co-nWo member on my website blogging thingy.

Other than that, except for missing Rach whilst she is with her mum and bro in the land of Oz (Australia not the one with the tin man), myself and my “sharing an office with at work” buddy Phil Brown (occasionally one word but not right now) have gotten into the great tv show ‘The Mighty Boosh‘, I’m not sure why but it cracks me up, it’s really weird and mental but hilarious, it’s even funnier when Phil gets scared, he’s weirded out by the moon but Old Gregg actually scares him! For a moment we discussed the possibilities of me being a bit like Howard and Phil being a bit like Vince but quickly decided that both were silly ideas…we decided that if we are anyone then Phil is Naboo and I am Bollo!

BULLET POINT - I do apologise for the above paragraph as I have realised that if you do not watch the Mighty Boosh then you probably haven’t a clue what I’m on about…if you don’t then I advise you to just simply laugh at the funny words or maybe if you’re really bored try and divide 7 by 4 in your head…keeps me busy for at least a while!

Chester, Chester, Chester… How I love thee

On a happier note, I got some new trainers yesterday after my cheap Fila ones in-soles fell apart…

They are so cool! They’re etnies ones and the model is called Bernie!

How cool is that?!

On Saturday, me, the Katie Lifford and the team Boswell of Lou and Tom went to Coventry to see Rach and her Nexus Christmas concert type thingy. The journey was a right laugh, Lou cracks me up and she makes Katie absolutely laugh her head off, which makes me laugh more!

Then I had a little mishap when we stopped on the way for some dinner at Burger King, whilst I was holding my wrapper that had a bit of ketchup on it, Lou made me laugh and I moved too much and got ketchup on my jacket! How rubbish! I managed to get it off and it doesn’t look too weird now, thank God!

Then we got to Coventry and Nexus and I got to see my amazingly beautiful girlfriend and then we found some good seats and watched the ’show’, I was worried that I would have to lie to Rach when I said it was good but luckily it was well wicked! They all were brilliant! The slickness and style of it was really impressive. It was so brilliant, especially ‘the 12 days of Christmas’, ‘Hark’ and ‘Come all ye Faithful’. It was all good, all apart from a moment that the whitest white boy going tried to rap! It was laughably rubbish!
Then when we got back, I got to spend a wicked two and a half days with the incredible Rach before she had to go to Australia to spend Christmas with her Mum and bro.

So on Tuesday night, me and the Blazin’ Glazins took Rach down to Hounslow to stay with a friend of family before she flew the next morning to re-unite with the legendary Eva and Stew!

It was well sad to leave her and sad as it may sound, miss her loads already!

But luckily the Glazins kept me entertained on the way back home so it kept me from feeling too down, only two weeks now until I can see her again!

Which is the best Christmas film?

This is something that I have been debating for a little while and I’ve boiled it down to two films…

Die Hard and Home Alone

But which is the best!
