Christmas Time

Thursday, November 30th, 2006

I was well shocked this morning when I realised that it is only 25 days until Christmas! I can’t believe it! It seems like only yesterday that everyone left for uni or London, I can’t believe how quickly it has come!

But now I am in trouble, I only have a short amount of time to get Christmas presents! Ahh! I feel really bad too as this is the first year in ages that I haven’t had a highly paid job and so people’s presents may well suck!

As we talk about Christmas, I thought it was time, in classic Hayley vs. Gareth style, to have a top five Christmas songs…

Mine are, in no particular order (they may be revised)…

1. Band Aid 20 - Do They Know It’s Christmas (I’m sorry but I think it is better than the original, and not just for the Dizzee Rascal bit!)
2. Coldplay - 2000 Miles (This is a cover of The Pretenders song and it is brilliant!)
3. Elton John - Step Into Christmas (What a tune!)
4. Mariah Carey - All I Want For Christmas is you (I know it’s easily mocked but it’s a fun song!)
5. Chuck Berry - Run Rudolph Run (If not only for its bit in Home Alone!)

I’m sure loads of you will disagree (you should, I’ve left out Cliff!) and so please use the wonderful comments thingy to add your own top fives

Sorry for the lack in posts…

There are two reasons…

  1. No time due to essays, November Sizewell and college
  2. No ideas spring to mind

Sorry, I will be back to the good ol’ days of too many posts soon…I promise

The Battle of the Halls!

Tuesday, November 28th, 2006

Much excitement filled the university campus today as everyone prepared for ‘The Battle of the Halls’! CCC were of course fully prepared for this event… this preparation had taken form in the lads having a girly night in watching chick flicks and drinking wine, whereas the rest of us went to see the amazing film that is James Bond!

CCC being a small community were seen no doubt as the underdogs in this battle which saw the 8 major halls take on each other in rounds of drinking beans, dancing, and singing to name a few! Our team did us proud as we cheered on the CCC! Starting off in the SU we were confident of our success as we karaoked` to ‘We are the Champions” - greeted by boo’s from Astbury…who we whipped!

After an amazingly fun evening the mighty CCC came 2nd to the bunch of lads from Catherine house! But that means that we go head to head with them in the final…you know who’s going to win!!

Facebook…the new myspace??

Tuesday, November 21st, 2006

I have just discovered the joys of facebook…hurrah something else to distract me from writing about Arius’s view of the person of Jesus or asking the question is Cindy Sherman an visual artist or a performer??

Although at first harder to navigate than the wonder of MySpace, your account is private and it’s a lot easier to upload pics!! So if anyone else has an account please add me!

CU weekend away!

Monday, November 20th, 2006

I’m sooooo tired…that was evident as I woke up at 8.45 with Gem knocking on my door asking me if I was ready for my lecture, which started 15 minutes later! Oops!

The weekend was awesome! Lard ball, tomato ketchup bum charades, marmite spider’s web and ice cream wide game…O yea! (And then I realised I now have to wash my own clothes…)

We had some amazing teaching which reminded me how amazing God is, and I’m soooo excited about the things that he has in store for me and just getting into a deeper relationship with him! My desire after this weekend is that he will teach me how to listen to him, and that I will be in tune with him and his heart. (Just thought would be cool to share that!)

Christian Union is an amazing thing and such an important part of being a Christian at university, which is why it shocked, upset and angered me was to get back and read about all of the problems that the CU’s at Edinburgh, Birmingham etc are having from the Student Unions. I don’t know exactly what happened at the Uni’s but I do believe that they are being discriminated against. When did this country suddenly decide that Christians aren’t allowed to express their biblical beliefs?

Feeling Chestive!

Friday, November 17th, 2006

I have a confession…I am very strong in my opinion that anything Christmassy should NOT happen until at the very earliest the 1st December, however I have failed myself this year as I let myself be carried away with the festivities in Chester last night. I chanted for Santa, sang a Christmas song, got excited about the Christmas lights and brought and drank Christmas tea. I am ashamed. But it was very much fun!

That’s the tree below…it’s beautiful! I’m now off on a CU weekend away…hurrah!

Living for the weekend [part 3]

Friday, November 17th, 2006

If you’re getting bored of hearing about my weekend, then sorry but only one final post about Sunday…

Again, I got up (why am I even saying this, I do it every day!) and made my beautiful girlfriend a wicked fry-up (even though I do say so myself) and I had a well nice bacon sarnie. After that Rach went back to sleep for a bit whilst I sat and watched the Remberance day stuff on telly. It was really moving and brought me to tears thinking about it all. I did the two minutes silence and so did Rach (although she was asleep so does it count?!) and then when Rach woke up we watched it together.

We then got a lift from Neil to town to go to Mizu for Phil Green’s birthday meal type thing. Mizu is really nice but I always seem to pick the thing that is the nastiest. Also, I forgot to get Phil a birthday present, for two reasons, one - I’m poor and secondly, I just forgot! But Phil reminded me that he still hasn’t got me a 21st birthday present so it’s him who owes me! Then Rach pointed out that Kev still hasn’t got me a 21st birthday present too!

Then me and Rach hung out round mine and then I had to drop her off at the station for her train back to Coventry :(

Later, me and the bestest buddy that is the Drewster (Andy for all you who don’t know) headed to that wonderful establishment and my local and where I learnt to drink, The Golf. There we had wonderful chats about stuff, Pro Evo, Newcastle maybe going down, Ipswich’s coaches and manager getting drunk in our pub, the incredibly beautiful Rach and loads of other cool things.

We then made the mistake of taking part in their pub quiz! Instead of the usual pub quiz style, this quiz was more difficult than a degree in nuclear physics (BULLET POINT - Not actually true but it’s close!) we got just under 20 out of like 80! Which even we were impressed with!

So, that was the weekend that was, maybe one of the best weekends ever, well for me it was!
