Version III

Thursday, September 28th, 2006

Last night saw the dawning of a new era in pub quiz teams…

Last night was the beginning of The Retrosexuals Version III…

We had lots of fun, including making friends with a group of people sitting near us, one of whom had a tattoo of a banjo on her foot! Yes, a Banjo! Yes, on her foot! Well actually, when she had it done she asked for a record needle as she is a DJ but the tattooist did it a bit rubbish and it looks more like a banjo now!

We also got 17 on the quiz, it sounds rubbish out of 30 but it was an incredibly hard week…

In this revolutionary new group are…

Hannah Glazin

Kev Hartwell

Gareth Verow

Andy Williamson

You may see us rocking a pub quiz near you soon!

Hello From Chester!

Wednesday, September 27th, 2006

So…here I am! This week has been so amazing so far…am missing you guys though! I’m sharing a house with a lovely group of girls! There’s me in room 1, in room 2 we have Monica who is from Finland, Steph from Chesterfield in room 3 - she’s our girl with the broadest Northern accent, in room 4 there is a fellow ginger who speaks Welsh in the shape of Gem. Opposite her in room 5 there is the lovely Jen - who is studying to be a teacher and who passed her driving test last week! Hurrah! And finaly in room 6 there is Laura - from Coventry, who is studying Christian Youth work and Theology!

This week has been eventful so far. What with Gem nearly getting her phone stolen, Steph getting locked in the toilet, getting conned out of money by a guy selling balloon flowers and generally just having a bit of a laugh!

CU was great last night, they’re a really awesome group of people and I can’t wait to get more involved! Pub crawl round the hundreds of bars in Chester tonight (Gareth, you would love it!), and another bright and early start tommorrow. Look forward to the forth coming series…Fun facts about Chester!!!

Miss you

Izzle

Thursday, September 21st, 2006

The other night in the pub, me, Kev and Phil Brown issued each other a challenge…

The challenge is to, in every day conversation, without people noticing (if possible) drop in lines from hip-hop or rap music songs…

possible examples to use are…

“Thats just the way it is, things will never be the same” (easy one for begineers)

“It’s like a jungle in this habitat”

“Couldn’t afford a car so she named her daughter Alexus”

“I came, I saw, I conquered, from record sales, to sold out concerts”

“I keep a blue flag hanging out my backside, but only on the left side, yeah, thats the Crip side” (only for pros of the game)

I advise you all to take up this wonderful game! If you want an easy target either try some lines on your Nanna or on your non-hip friends (I have one called Ian!)

Where is he?

Wednesday, September 20th, 2006

Walley?

Walley?

Where is he?

He is in London! :(

Sorry dear readers but I’ve only just got round to posting about Mark leaving.

Mark, the absolute legend that is, came into my life when he came to Ipswich at the beginning of his degree and I knew him through helping with a CYM event called The Platform. But to be honest, I’m not sure I liked him. He seemed a bit odd. Too clever for me and seemed to be a bit too holy to be my friend. But then after a year of knowing him, after a Soundnation launch event, me, Kev and The Baxter invited him to the pub and after chatting with him in the pub, I knew he was gonna be a good mate. He liked High Fidelity and coming up with Top 5’s so of course he was gonna be my mate! Anyway, our friendship grew from there.

I could go on for ages, but unless you are me or Mark then you probably wouldn’t care!

But in honour of Mark, I thought I’d do a Top 5 best things about Mark…

  1. His cool, yet geeky, yet rubbish style…we all miss those trousers which look a bit like S and M gear! And I don’t know anyone else who manages to get away with barely doing anything with their hair!
  2. His ability to learn…over three years in Ipswich Paul and me have converted Mark from someone who doesn’t really care or know about football, to someone who is a die hard Ipswich Town fan, even if he does have a strangely strong amount of love for Thierry Henry! We have also been able to change him from a man who drank the pee water that is Carling to someone who drinks John Smiths and then to someone who drinks whichever ale looks or sounds the coolest!
  3. His strong Christian faith, he has been a real help to us all in his example as a Christian, its helped also to see him sin (SHOCK HORROR - MARK SINS!) and that reminds us that we are all crap and all mess up. But as a good person to ask every question under the sun, Mark is tip top! He was/is a wicked prayer partner too! Even if we end up talking about football or something when we should be talking about what we want prayer for!
  4. The wicked friendship that he has given all of us Retrosexuals! He truly is one of the Famous Five and has been an amazing friend to me through the good and the bad times! Cheers bro!
  5. And finally…his love of Kev! Anyone who loves Kev is good by me!

So, so long Mark and farewell…it aint over till the Fat Lady sings and Kev aint even done a sound check yet!

Come back and visit us soon!

Student

Monday, September 18th, 2006

As of last week I am now an official Uni type!

I know!

The guy who left school at 15 with nothing, is now on a degree course!

Shocking huh?!

I am now a student studying “Youth and Community Work with Applied Theology”

It is with Centre for Youth Ministry and I am studying at the Cambridge centre, which is at Ridley Hall Theological College (which looks like Hogwarts or something!) but I am only there two days every other week and the rest of the time is spent studying at home and working in my placement which is the lovely Christian Youth Ministries of the amazing town that is Ipswich and the course is accredited by Oxford Brookes University.

So hopefully in three years time, I will be able to get a paid job in youth work! Woo Hoo!

Why Saturday sucked

Monday, September 18th, 2006

On Friday night I slept over on Hayley’s sofa so that we could get up early enough to go and see Rach off as she is going to Coventry to do a gap year doing sound engineering at Nexus which is a Christian music college.

So anyway, Hayley woke me up at like half five…yes half five! In the morning! I know! and then I quickly washed and got dressed and we went on our way to wave off Miss Bruce. So, me, Hayley and the newest Retrosexual Hannah waved off Rebby and tears were shed by all.

We then tried to cheer ourselves up by having a dreadful breakfast at the Little Chef (I don’t recommend ever eating there) but that didn’t work, then me and the ginger tried to have a “day of fun” but apart from buying a new man bag and t-shirt it didn’t help to cheer me up.

So, if you see me and I don’t look all too excited then it’s because Rach has gone

Bye for a week

Sunday, September 17th, 2006

just wanted to let you all know that I (Hayley) won’t be posting this week as am going to be away from home and with no internet! Sorry, I will miss you all very much, but will be back in no time.

I’ve had a very strange week. I’ve been saying my goodbyes to people before I leave for Uni next Sun, and man, does that take it out of you. An arwful thing about the week…I’ve lost my waterproof mascara, but I’ve never needed it so badly!

see you soon
