New

Hello again all you wonderful people who read this blog, although you never really know who that is or how many people that is, it could just be me!

Anyway, sorry for lack of blogs recently, no internet at home and enforced time off over Christmas has meant no blogs, sorry

So, it’s New Years Eve tomorrow and I was wondering what peoples’ hopes, dreams, resolutions and all that kinda thing are for the new year of two thousand and nine (it’s so cooler written out like that!)

Hardy

On Sunday night, me, Kevvo, Paulo (glad to have you back for Christmas buddy!!!) and my best buddy Andy went to the pub. Shock horror I hear you cry, okay fine, so we go to the pub all the time and do go every Sunday. You’ve caught me!

But anyway this Sunday wasn’t just any normal Sunday night! So after a few lovely pints in the cool pub that is the Fat Cat, me, Kevvo and Andy (Paul went home cos of a gammy tummy) grabbed a Chinese (mmmm) and went back to Andy’s. Why I hear you ask?

Armageddon.

Huh?

Not the end of the world or anything but the WWE pay per view

Yeah, we’re cool! You all wish you was us don’t you!

Well, we are cool and WWE (or WWF as it used to be called) has been a love of mine since I was like 8 and me and Andy are massive fans (how we’re both single I don’t know!)

So, anyway, instead of doing a detailed description of the evening and all the matches all I wanted to write this post about is that finally and I mean FINALLY Jeff Hardy won the WWE Title! Which is a big deal! We’d seen Jeff rise from being an 18 year old kid in a tag team with his brother to like ten years later where he is now the WWE Champion!

I’m sure you don’t care and if you don’t then it doesn’t bother me but me, Andy and Hollywood Hartwell hit the roof when Jeff won and it was great!

Viper

There is a Christian from America called John Piper. He’s quite good at speaking and has written some good books, even though his voice to me is well annoying he’s one of them hero-types to all the cool reformed kids with their ESV Bible wishing they knew John Owen!

Anyway John “the Viper” Piper as I like to call him (it would just work as a wrestling name!) is pretty reformed and Calvinistic and all that jazz…so because of his love of all things totally depraved (joke) somebody has made a video on YouTube of him…I heard about it because one of my favourite Christians Phil Brown (shout out) sent me an email with a link on it

Even if you don’t know him or like him it’s hilarious so check it out

Prayer

Father God,

please please please will you stop the X-Factor from ruining the Christmas number one spot every year and please more than that will you stop them from butchering and I mean seriously butchering classics…Jeff Buckley’s version of Hallelujah is tender, heartbreaking, amazing, great and lots of other good descriptive words (listen to it here) but this stupid girl who won the X-Factor’s version is so bad I can’t use clean words to describe it Father! It’s so bad and she sounds like a drunk old woman doing a bad bad terrible version of it on Karaoke at some rubbish pub in the middle of nowhere and I wish God that she had stayed there…please stop these people from ruining great songs…please

Amen

Sleigh

I like Christmas songs, I know most don’t and to be fair there are so many crap ones it’s unbelievable but good Christmas songs I love! (my top 5 non-Carol Christmas songs are in fact to be found here)

Another song I do like is ‘Sleigh Ride’ although this has been done really badly before…but I found a really cool cover of it by a band called ‘Relient K‘, who are supposedly Chrispys but I don’t know…never heard of them (I’m not really up on my Christian music…blooming heathens being so talented and writing brilliant songs!)

So here it is!

P.S. Look at me with my embedding videos! Also, keep reading because Tom’s request of blogs is coming soon! Very soon! Now? Well, not now but soon!

Cheap

The Resurgence is a really good website which has cool blogs about holy things and is good and challenging and sound and all that stuff. There’s even a link to it on the right hand side, that’s how good it is!

And here is a really good blog about ‘Songs about God’s love being cheap’

What do you think? Agree? Disagree? Thoughts?

Spot

Whenever I see my mate Mark he always tells me about some cool celebrity spot he has had in London where he lives

He uses the “genius” way of playing “guess who” until you have figured out who it is, usually followed by a “Wow, you saw them!” and then Mark’s pride is increased and he feels all smug and proud of himself (Love you buddy!)

So, since I live in the Celebrity Capital Ipswich (jokes) I thought I would share with you three “big names” that I saw in ASDA this lunchtime…and I would play Guess Who but I really can’t be bothered!

So, the big names I saw were

  • Richard Naylor - yes, the ginger Town centre half lovingly known as Bam Bam or Psycho at football!
  • Gareth McAuley - the centre half and captain of the wonderful Ipswich Town! And he shares the first name with this very writer!
  • Donovan Blake - Yes, Donovan Blake!!! Don’t know him?! Yes you do! He’s the sports presenter guy off Anglia News!

WOW!!! Don’t get too jealous Mark!

Essays

I’ve just sent off my second essay for this term and so college wise I’m now done for Christmas although I’m sure I’ll actually have loads of dissertation stuff to do…oh what fun!

Christmas time is coming around again and I know I’m getting old because not only have I not got an advent calendar, I haven’t thought once about what I want for Christmas! What happened to me, I used to start thinking probably about Boxing Day for the next years Christmas and what’s gutting is that I can’t even blame it on having enough stuff that I don’t want or need anything…I want and need loads!

Oh, and whilst I think of it, I’m loving reading the discussions on the comments about stuff in previous blogs, it’s always interesting to get other people’s opinions on stuff

Wrong

Listening to a sermon/talk/preach/whatever you’re meant to call them online as I write my essay and it’s awesome and really flipping challenging and I wanted to share with you guys one quote which is of massive importance and is something we have all got wrong at least once if not all the time.

“We cannot make love into God, God is love but love is not God. Who God is defines what love is like. God is a God of anger, God is a God of wrath, God is a God of judgement, God is a God of justice, God is a God of love and this is how He expresses it.

You cannot use Victorian niceties to define what is love and then judge God, the servants of God and the Bible by Victorian politeness’ - Mark Driscoll

Question

Question: Do you think God can use horoscopes and things to speak to people?

Answer: No. Why? Because God has revealed to us in the Bible ways in which he will speak to his people and has also said in the Bible many things that he is not into us doing and I think horoscopes is clearly one of the things that God is not wanting us to be into. Also, I think it is stupid and a sign of our liberal stupid times when we are so loose on our theology that we might think that God would speak to us through horoscopes which in their very nature deny God, deny his sovereignty, deny our need for Him, and completely deny most if not all of good theology. To say that God would speak to us through horoscopes would be like me stating that God would speak to me through pornography or something. So my answer is no.
